The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has flourished by leaps and bounds since its inception in 2001 and has seen remarkable and consistent growth. It currently offers two undergraduate programs viz., B. Tech. CSE, B. Tech. CSBS and a Postgraduate program M. Tech.  Artificial Intelligence. The department is a JNTUH recognized Research Centre which facilitated to offer PhD program since 2020. B.Tech. The CSE program has been accredited five times by the NBA from 2007 onwards. The fifth accreditation is under Tier-1 from July 2022 for a period of three years.

CSE Department has well-equipped computing facilities, including Apple Systems, NVIDIA GPUs, IBM Servers, Raspberry Pi, and Intel multi-core systems. It has 41 Lab units of 30 systems each, with the latest open-source software tools needed for B. Tech. and M. Tech. Curricula. Oracle 10g, Eclipse, Open XML, My SQL, Anaconda, Weka, Android Studio, Visual Studio Code, Angular and React Libraries, and Node JS, to name a few.

The CSE Department is thriving in emerging areas of computer science. It can cater to the new industry-agnostic technologies and skill sets that must be attributed to the faculty members' continuous learning and upskilling nature. The research experience of the Professors in classical theory as well as in modern areas of computing, the out-of-box thinking of Associate Professors, and the quick adaptation of new technologies by Assistant Professors enable the department to pioneer in all the areas of computer science. On the research front, the faculties are actively conducting research in areas such as Image Processing, Computer Vision, Software Engineering, Generative AI, NLP, Big Data Frameworks, and Cloud and IoT Security.

To foster collaboration among researchers and improve outreach, the department proudly takes credit for hosting international conferences three times. MIWAI 2023 (https://miwai23.miwai.org/) and AIXCELLENCE (https://iaicaie.web.app/) brought the department many accolades. The outcomes of these research efforts have translated into high-quality research articles and patents. The department's doctorates have produced 15 Ph. D’s and are guiding another 9 Ph.D. Scholars.  

The department, adhering to the college policy, maintains an excellent student-faculty ratio, which exceeds the stipulations set by AICTE. Currently, about 105 faculty are in the roles. The work culture, professional satisfaction, and learning curve offered by the department resulted in high Faculty retention. Specifically, two faculty members have associated with the department since its inception, four more faculty members have completed 20 years, ten more faculty have completed 15 years of service, and several have served the department for more than 10 years.

The department constituted the Board of Studies in 2012 after gaining autonomy and acceptance of course structures and curriculum from all the college stakeholders. To make the academic instruction more contemporary, the BoS conducts a series of meetings and finalizes the curriculum that suits the industry requirements. The insights and advice of Dr. K. V. Chalapathi Rao, Professor Emeritus, and other reputed university professors and industry experts always give an edge to the department in retaining leadership among the private engineering college counterparts.

The department has signed MoUs with Middlesex University, UK, for collaborative research in Image Processing and Computer Vision, and Fragma Data Systems, Bengaluru, for Knowledge Transfer and Research in Big Data Analytics. The department has also executed a MoU with Adepto Geo-Informatics, Virtusa Consulting Services Private Limited, and SAP India Private Limited to interact continuously with industry and academia. The department faculty actively mentors NewGen EDC projects and guides B. Tech. and M. Tech. Projects in the emerging areas of Computer Science: AI & ML, Data Science, and Cyber Security.

Students of CSE are prodigious and show enthusiasm for participating in Tech fests, Hackathons, coding competitions, and sports events. Four such Smart India Hackathon participating teams brought laurels to the department by winning admirable prize money worth Rs 1,50,000. Several students of CSE have bagged top scores in competitive exams like GRE, GATE, CAT, etc., and joined postgraduate programs in prestigious Institutes such as IITs, IIMs, and IIITs and internationally reputed universities abroad. Some have emerged as young entrepreneurs and expanded their operations overseas, too. Students of the CSE branch get placed in MNCs like Amazon, Oracle, Adobe, IBM, TCS, Walmart, Deloitte, etc., every year with CTCs that are on par with NITs and IITs.

The department gained wider recognition from JNTUH for the academic success of Mr. Harsh H. Shah, who bagged 3 Gold Medals for his outstanding academic performance among all the students from affiliated colleges during 2008-09. Mr. Sankalp, Mr. Prashanth, and Mr. Rohith Vemula of this department ventured into the movie industry and rose to national-level award winners.

The senior professors of the department are:

• Dr. Hrushikesha Mohanty took his PhD at IIT Kharagpur for his work on Distributed Systems. He started his career at Electronics Corporation of India Ltd. Hyderabad in developing real-time air surveillance systems for Indian Air Force. Later he shifted to University of Hyderabad and had a long career in academics. As a visiting professor he has served International Institute of Software Technology in United Nations University, Univ. of Savoie in France, Univ. of Aizu in Japan, Bar Ilan University in Israel, Vrije University in Netherlands and National University in Singapore. His research interest includes Distributed Systems, Software Engineering and Social Systems. He has guided twelve PhD students and several M.Tech and MCA students. As the principal investigator he has executed research projects funded by ISRO, ECIL, HCL, DST, ICSSR and UGC. He also served as the Vice Chancellor of KIIT, Deemed University, Bhubaneshwar. On superannuating at University of Hyderabad currently he’s working as an emeritus professor to Computer Science and Engineering Department, CVR College of engineering. Now, he actively pursues to introduce Computational Social Science as a new field of study.
• Prof. L.C. Siva Reddy, Emeritus Professor of CSE and Vice-Principal. He completed M.Sc. in Physics, M.Phil. in Computational Techniques from the University of Hyderabad.  Earlier he was HOD of the Department of CSE at Osmania University, Hyderabad.  He was responsible for developing software for entrance tests, result processing of LAWCET, MBACET, MCACET, EAMCET - 85 and 89. Served as Chairman, Board of Studies, Osmania University, Hyderabad.  He joined CVRCE in 2001 and is Vice-Principal of the College.
• Dr. A. Vani Vathsala, Professor of CSE and Head of the Department.  She completed her Ph.D. (CS) from the University of Hyderabad in 2016 and M.Tech (CS) also from the University of Hyderabad in 1998. After completing B.Tech (CSE) in1996, she worked for Tata Consultancy Services, Hyderabad for around 4 years. She has been associated with the dept since 2006. Her areas of specialization include Web Services, Cloud Computing and Machine Learning. She has 9 Scopus index publications to her credit.  She has mentored teams in smart – India Hackathon and has guided NIMH NewGen EDL Projects.
• Dr. Raghava V. Cherabuddi, Professor of CSE - formerly with Intel and Microsoft.
• Dr. D. Durga Bhavani - Obtained her B.E (CSE) Degree from Gulbarga University, M.Tech (WT) from JNTU Hyderabad, and Ph.D.(CSE - 2016) in the field of Data Mining from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur. Her areas of interest are Data mining, Image Processing, and Big Data.  She looks after Student Affairs in Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
• Dr. N. Subhash Chandra - Received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from JNTUH in the year 2010. His research interests include Image Processing, Computer Vision and Machine Learning. He has successfully guided 10 research scholars and is currently guiding 3 research scholars under JNTUH. He has published two patents on emerging research areas.
• Dr. R.K. Selva kumar - Obtained his M.Sc. in Mathematics from Madurai Kamaraj University in 1987. He had also received an equivalent M.Tech. in Computer Technology through DOEACC-C Level from DIT, Govt. of India in 2002. He has another M.Tech. in Computer & Information Technology from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tamilnadu, 2011. He has a Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering, from the CITE, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tamilnadu, 2010.  His areas of interest are Artificial Intelligence System, Computer Vision, Video Coding, Predictive Analysis and Computer Simulation. He has guided 4 Research scholars for Ph.D and 4 research scholars for M.Phil.
• Dr. Raghava  M - Professor of CSE and Associate Dean, Alumni Affairs - obtained his post graduation in Mathematics from Central University, Pondicherry during the year 2000, and received his M.Tech (CST) from the University of Mysore in 2003. He has been serving as a faculty member in the Department since 2003. He obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Central University, Hyderabad during the year 2017. His research areas include Image Processing, Random Fields, Approximation Theory, and Machine Learning.
• Dr. K. Venkatesh Sharma - Completed AMIETE in CSE from IETE, New Delhi, M.Tech. in CSE from JUTUH, and Ph.D. in CSE from JNTUK in Software Engineering. His research areas are Software Engineering, Big Data, Machine learning etc. He is an author of Four books and has Four patents. He has guided 8 Research Scholars till now.
• Dr. Bandi  Rambabu - is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs. He holds a B.Tech in CSE from JNTUH and an M.Tech and Ph.D. in CSE from Osmania University in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. His research interests span across multiple domains, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain technologies, computer networks, wireless and mobile computing, and the Internet of Things. He has a commendable track record with 20 international publications indexed by SCI, SCOPUS, and other renowned databases.
• Dr.V. Dattatreya - currently Working as a Professor in the Dept of CSE. I completed Ph.D. (CSE) from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad in 2021 and M.Tech CSE from the I.E.T.E, Hyderabad in 2004.I have been associated with the Department of CSE since 2006. My areas of specialization include Web Services, Machine Learning and Software Engineering.
• Dr. G. Balakrishna - is currently working as a Professor and Exam Branch Coordinator in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.  He completed his B.Tech in CSIT from JNTU, Hyderabad and  M.Tech in CSE from the JNTU, Hyderabad. He also completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the JNTU, Hyderabad in the year 2019. He has more than 18 years of teaching experience. His research interests are in security, networking, and malware analysis. He published more than 10 papers in referred national journal, international conferences and international journals and some of his contributions are also indexed by Scopus and other prominent citation databases.
• Dr. S. Suguna Mallika - obtained her B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from Nagarjuna University, Guntur, M.Tech in Computer Science from JNTU  Hyderabad and Ph.D from JNTU Kakinada, India.  She is currently working as Professor and NBA Coordinator in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at CVR College of Engineering, Hyderabad, India. Her research interests are currently vested in the area of Software Engineering. She accrued an industry experience of 5 years with Wipro Technologies Pvt. Ltd.  She has more than 20 publications in various national, international journals, book chapters and patents published to her credit. She worked in domains like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, IoT, owning to her mentorship of various NewGen IEDC projects and participation in Smart India Hackathons.
• Dr. C. Ramesh - began his career as an Assistant Professor in the CSE Department, CVR College of Engineering and was subsequently promoted as Associate Professor and Professor.  He is also Associate Dean, Student Affairs.  He holds a Ph.D degree in Computer Science and Engineering from JNTUH, Hyderabad. He completed his M.Tech in Computer Science from University College of Engineering, JNTUH, Hyderabad and Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Computer Science and Engineering from MJCET College, Hyderabad.  His research interests include Data Mining, Semantic Web Mining, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Cloud Computing.
• Dr. D. Sandhya Rani - is currently working as a Professor and Research Coordinator  in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. She has completed her B.Tech in CSIT from JNTU, Hyderabad and  M.Tech in CSE from the JNTU, Hyderabad.  She completed her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad in the year 2023. She has more than 18 years of teaching experience. Her research interests are in Data mining, Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence.
• Dr. Ch. Niranjan Kumar - Professor of CSE, received his Ph.D. (CSE) from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH) in the year 2016 and obtained his M.Tech. (CSE) from JNTUH and B.Tech. (CSIT) from Kakatiya University, Warangal. He possesses more than 20 years of experience in research and teaching. He contributed to the authorship of three textbooks and published two patents. He has published more than 20 research articles in various peer-reviewed journals and conferences. His research interests include machine learning, information security, cloud computing, and wireless networks.

Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering

The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering started in 2001. Presently it offers B. Tech. programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) with an intake of 120, Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design & Technology) (EE(VLSID & T)) with an intake of 60, two M. Tech. programmes with specializations in VLSI System Design (VLSI-SD) and Embedded Systems (ES), with an intake of 18 each.

The B. Tech. ECE Programme is currently accredited by the NBA under Tier I Institutions for 6 years from 2022 to 2028. M.Tech. (VLSI System Design) and M.Tech. (Embedded Systems) programmes are accredited for 3 years by the NBA under Tier I in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

The ECE department has 48 Faculty Members and one Emeritus Professor. Among faculty, 24 are Doctorates and 21 faculty members are pursuing part time Ph.D. in various universities.
 

   Minor Degree Program: Students admitted to B.Tech. ECE or EE (VLSID & T) can also pursue Minor Degree programmes in any of the following disciplines:

•    B.Tech. ECE or EE (VLSID & T) with minor in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI&ML)
•    B.Tech. ECE or EE (VLSID & T) with minor in Data Science (DS)
•    B.Tech. ECE or EE (VLSID & T) with minor in Cyber Security (CS)
•    B.Tech. ECE or EE (VLSID & T) with minor in Internet of Things (IOT)
•    B.Tech. ECE or EE (VLSID & T) with minor in Entrepreneurship

        The department has well-equipped state-of-the-art laboratories for Electronic Circuits, Basic Simulation, Digital Logic Design, Analog & Digital Communications, Linear IC applications, Digital Signal Processing, Microcontrollers and Microwaves. Advanced research laboratories include VLSI Center of Excellence and Embedded Systems. Software available includes latest versions of MATLAB, CADENCE complete suit, Xilinx and Co-design tools to name a few. The Department has a dedicated Computer Centre, Research Centre, Project Lab and Design Lab facilities for UG and PG students.

The department received the state-of-the-art EDA tools of Synopsys, Ansys, Keysight and Silvaco from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under the C2S program. These tools will help the students of B.Tech. Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design & Technology), ECE, EEE, EIE & M.Tech. VLSI System Design, Embedded Systems to design and develop semiconductor chips using industry standard workflow methodologies.

Some achievements of the students include first prize in Smart India Hackathon, securing University ranks, admissions to IITs and reputed foreign universities for higher studies and placements in reputed companies.

JNTUH has accorded Research Centre to the department. Three Ph.D. Scholars have been allotted to this Research Centre with institute Scholarship. The department has also received 1.85 crores of funds so far from external agencies such as the UGC, AICTE, DST, DRDO, ECIL, NRSC, Comsat Systems Pvt. Ltd. for research and consultancy activities. The department has MoUs with NRSC and Comsat Systems Pvt. Ltd.

The Professors of the department include:

1. Dr P Srinivasa Rao: HoD, Ph.D. from the JNTUH and his research interests include IoT, Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Soft Computing for Image Processing.
2. Dr K S Nayanathara: Dean - Academics, Ph.D. from NIT Warangal. Former member of the GC, of the IETE. She is an expert in Electromagnetics, Microwave Devices and Antennas.
3. Dr K Lal Kishore: Dean - R & D, Ph.D. from IISC Bengaluru. He recently retired from the post of Vice-Chancellor, JNTU Anantapur. He served the JNTUH, Hyderabad in various positions as Director, Principal, Rector & Registrar He is an expert in Electronic Devices and Circuits, VLSI System Design.
4. Prof P Viswanath: Former Executive Director of ECIL. He has 36 years of industrial experience in the field of Instrumentation & Control, specialized in Nuclear Power Plants.
5. Prof CHVRS Gopala Krishna: Former Executive Director of ECIL. He has 36 years of industrial experience in the field of Microwaves & Antennas.
6. Dr K Yedukondalu: Associate Dean - Academics, Ph.D. from Osmania University and expert in Wireless Communications, Biomedical & Adaptive Signal Processing, Global Navigation, Satellite systems.
7. Dr K Lalithendra: Associate Dean-Accredations, Ph.D. from IIT Delhi in Microwave Engineering. His research interests are Electromagnetic Bandgap Structures, Metamaterial, Frequency Selective Surfaces, Planar Antennas, RF Energy Harvesting.
8. Dr T Esther Rani: She completed her Ph.D. from the JNTUH Hyderabad. She has been selected for Research Award for three consecutive years, 2015-2017 by the University Grants Commission and received a total grant of Rs. 46.7 Lakhs. Her areas of interest include Low Power VLSI Design, Mixed Signal Design, Embedded System Design, Image Processing and Computer Vision.
9. Dr Humaira Nishat: Ph.D. from the JNTUH and her research interests are Wireless Communication and Networks, Heterogeneous Networks & Device to Device Communication(5G).
10. Dr G Ravi Shankar Reddy: Ph.D from the JNTU  Anantapur and his research interests includes Signal processing, Machine Learning and Deep Learning.
