The Department was established in the year 2001 with an intake of 60 for B. Tech IT programme and has been increased to 120 in the academic year 2007-08. The Department offers M. Tech. Programme in Data Sciences with an intake of 18 seats from the academic year 2018-19. The Department was accredited by NBA, AICTE in the year 2007 and reaccredited in the year 2013, 2018, 2021 & 2022. The Department is headed by Dr. Bipin Bihari Jayasingh.  All faculty members are post graduated at the Assistant Professor level, which is an entry level requirement for recruitment to the department. The faculty consists of a good mix of individuals with industry and academic experience. The Department maintains consistent faculty retention ratio.

The Department has 3 Professors, 4 Associate Professors and 14 Assistant Professors. There are 4 Ph.D. holders working for the department and 6 faculty members are pursuing Ph.D. from reputed institutions such as Osmania University, JNTUH Hyderabad and JNTU Kakinada. The Department has well equipped 11 laboratory units that includes 8 units of B.Tech. laboratories, 1 Research Lab,1 Project Lab and 1 M. Tech. Data Science Lab. The Department library contains 256 Volumes and 239 Titles for B.Tech. and 12 Volumes and 12 Titles for M. Tech. students apart from Main Library in which the Department is provided with 4320 Volumes and 556 Titles for B.Tech. and 642 Volumes and 84 Titles for M. Tech.

The department has been conducting workshops, faculty development programs, seminars, guest lectures and conferences since its inception to keep the faculty and students abreast with the latest developments in the field of technical education. IngenuITy is a students technical Association of department of IT inaugurated on 06/02/2016. There were many technical events organized from the day of its inception for the students. Techshastra is an annual technical fest. organized every year by IngenuITy..

Brief Profile of Professors And Ph.D. Holders:

1.  Dr. Bipin Bihari Jayasingh, Professor and Head of the Department, has 25 years of teaching and research experience. He has completed his Ph. D in Cyber Forensics at Berhampur University in the year 2007 under the JRF fellowship scheme of Directorate of Forensic Science, MHA, Government of India. He has published 89 research papers in various International/national Conferences and Journals. He has four patents to his credit. His research specializations are Cyber Security & Forensics, Agent based Computing, Intrusion Detection Systems, Cryptography & Network Security, Wireless Sensor & Adhoc Networks, Cloud Computing, Data Mining, Machine Learning, IOT, Blockchain Technologies. He is a member of IEEE.

2. Dr. R. Seetharamaiah, Professor has 20 years of industry experience and 20 years of teaching experience. He has completed his Ph.D. in Distributed Computing from University of Hyderabad. His specializations are Computer Architecture, Parallel and Distributed Systems, Internet of Things and Cloud Computing.

3. Dr. J. Sengathir, Associate Professor has 15 years of teaching experience. He has completed his Ph.D. from Pondichery University. He is the recipient of the Pondicherry University Gold Medal in the year 2009. His areas of interest are Mobile Adhoc Networks, Genetic Algorithms, Bio-Inspired Computing. He has authored more than 50 research papers in reputed SCIE indexed International Journals and Scopus indexed International Conferences. He is a life member of ISTE, ISRD, member in IAENG and Senior Member in UACEE.

4. Dr. Sarangam Kodati, Associate Professor has 12 years of teaching  and 4 years of research experience. He received his B.Tech degree Computer Science and Engineering JNTU graduate from VNR VJIET, M.Tech (Computer Science) from JNTU – CEH (Autonomous) Hyderabad and Ph.D degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Sri Satya Sai University of Technology and Medical Science, Sehore, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. More than 50 papers published in reputed Journals and Conferences. His fields of interest include Data Mining, Machine Learning, Internet of Things and Wireless Mobile Ad hoc Networks.
