The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering started in 2001. Presently it offers B. Tech. programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) with an intake of 120, Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design & Technology) (EE(VLSID & T)) with an intake of 60, two M. Tech. programmes with specializations in VLSI System Design (VLSI-SD) and Embedded Systems (ES), with an intake of 18 each.

The B. Tech. ECE Programme is currently accredited by the NBA under Tier I Institutions for 6 years from 2022 to 2028. M.Tech. (VLSI System Design) and M.Tech. (Embedded Systems) programmes are accredited for 3 years by the NBA under Tier I in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

The ECE department has 48 Faculty Members and one Emeritus Professor. Among faculty, 25 are Doctorates and 23 faculty members are pursuing part time Ph.D. in various universities.
 

   Minor Degree Program: Students admitted to B.Tech. ECE or EE (VLSID & T) can also pursue Minor Degree programmes in any of the following disciplines:

•    B.Tech. ECE or EE (VLSID & T) with minor in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI&ML)
•    B.Tech. ECE or EE (VLSID & T) with minor in Data Science (DS)
•    B.Tech. ECE or EE (VLSID & T) with minor in Cyber Security (CS)
•    B.Tech. ECE or EE (VLSID & T) with minor in Internet of Things (IOT)
•    B.Tech. ECE or EE (VLSID & T) with minor in Entrepreneurship

        The department has well-equipped state-of-the-art laboratories for Electronic Circuits, Basic Simulation, Digital Logic Design, Analog & Digital Communications, Linear IC applications, Digital Signal Processing, Microcontrollers and Microwaves. Advanced research laboratories include VLSI Center of Excellence and Embedded Systems. Software available includes latest versions of MATLAB, CADENCE complete suit, Xilinx and Co-design tools to name a few. The Department has a dedicated Computer Centre, Research Centre, Project Lab and Design Lab facilities for UG and PG students.

The department received the state-of-the-art EDA tools of Synopsys, Ansys, Keysight and Silvaco from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under the C2S program. These tools will help the students of B.Tech. Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design & Technology), ECE, EEE, EIE & M.Tech. VLSI System Design, Embedded Systems to design and develop semiconductor chips using industry standard workflow methodologies.

Some achievements of the students include first prize in Smart India Hackathon, securing University ranks, admissions to IITs and reputed foreign universities for higher studies and placements in reputed companies.

JNTUH has accorded Research Centre to the department. Three Ph.D. Scholars have been allotted to this Research Centre with institute Scholarship. The department has also received 1.85 crores of funds so far from external agencies such as the UGC, AICTE, DST, DRDO, ECIL, NRSC, Comsat Systems Pvt. Ltd. for research and consultancy activities. The department has MoUs with NRSC and Comsat Systems Pvt. Ltd.

The Professors of the department include:

  1. Dr P Srinivasa Rao: HoD, Ph.D. from the JNTUH and his research interests include IoT, Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Soft Computing for Image Processing.
  2. Dr K S Nayanathara: Dean - Academics, Ph.D. from NIT Warangal. Former member of the GC, of the IETE. She is an expert in Electromagnetics, Microwave Devices and Antennas.
  3. Dr K Lal Kishore: Dean - R & D, Ph.D. from IISC Bengaluru. He recently retired from the post of Vice-Chancellor, JNTU Anantapur. He served the JNTUH, Hyderabad in various positions as Director, Principal, Rector & Registrar He is an expert in Electronic Devices and Circuits, VLSI System Design.
  4. Prof P Viswanath: Former Executive Director of ECIL. He has 36 years of industrial experience in the field of Instrumentation & Control, specialized in Nuclear Power Plants.
  5. Prof CHVRS Gopala Krishna: Former Executive Director of ECIL. He has 36 years of industrial experience in the field of Microwaves & Antennas.
  6. Dr K Yedukondalu: Associate Dean - Academics, Ph.D. from Osmania University and expert in Wireless Communications, Biomedical & Adaptive Signal Processing, Global Navigation, Satellite systems.
  7. Dr K Lalithendra: Associate Dean-Accredations, Ph.D. from IIT Delhi in Microwave Engineering. His research interests are Electromagnetic Bandgap Structures, Metamaterial, Frequency Selective Surfaces, Planar Antennas, RF Energy Harvesting.
  8. Dr T Esther Rani: She completed her Ph.D. from the JNTUH Hyderabad. She has been selected for Research Award for three consecutive years, 2015-2017 by the University Grants Commission and received a total grant of Rs. 46.7 Lakhs. Her areas of interest include Low Power VLSI Design, Mixed Signal Design, Embedded System Design, Image Processing and Computer Vision.
  9. Dr Humaira Nishat: Ph.D. from the JNTUH and her research interests are Wireless Communication and Networks, Heterogeneous Networks & Device to Device Communication(5G).
  10. Dr G Ravi Shankar Reddy: Ph.D from the JNTU  Anantapur and his research interests includes Signal processing, Machine Learning and Deep Learning.
