The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is one of the departments that started at the time of inception of CVR College of Engineering in 2001 with an intake of 60 B.Tech. students. Expanding its horizons over the years, the department presently offers B. Tech. ECE programme with an intake of 120, two M. Tech. programs with specializations in VLSI System Design and Embedded Systems with an intake of 18 each.

        The B. Tech. ECE Programme was initially accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) under Tier II in 2007 and 2013. It was subsequently accredited under Tier I in 2016 and 2019. Most recently, in the fifth cycle, the B.Tech. Electronics & Communication Engineering programme has been accredited for 6 Years (2022 - 2028) under Tier-1.

        The M. Tech VLSI System Design programme has been accredited by the NBA under Tier I in 2022.

Minor Degree Program: Students admitted to B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) can also pursue Minor Degree programs in any of the following disciplines:

•    B.Tech. ECE with minor in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI&ML)
•    B.Tech. ECE with minor in Data Science (DS)
•    B.Tech. ECE with minor in Cyber Security (CS)
•    B.Tech. ECE with minor in Internet of Things (IOT)
•    B.Tech. ECE with minor in Entrepreneurship

         ECE Department has 59 Regular Faculty Members and 1 Professor Emeritus. Among the Regular faculty, 21 are Doctorates and 34 faculty members are pursuing part time Ph.D. in various universities.

The department has well-equipped state-of-the-art laboratories for Electronic Circuits, Basic Simulation, Digital Logic Design, Analog & Digital Communications, Linear IC applications, Digital Signal Processing, Microcontrollers and Microwaves. Advanced research laboratories include VLSI Center of Excellence and Embedded Systems. Software available includes latest versions of MATLAB, CADENCE complete suit, Xilinx and Co-design tools to name a few. The Department has a dedicated Computer Centre, Research Centre, Project Lab and Design Lab facilities for UG and PG students.

The strengths of the department are the specialized laboratories, senior Professors, dynamic & young Associate and Assistant Professors, industrious Academic Assistants, staff and meritorious students.

Some of the achievements of the students include first prize in Smart India Hackathon, securing University ranks, admissions to IITs and reputed foreign universities for higher studies and placements in reputed companies.

JNTUH has accorded Research Centre status to the department. Three Ph.D. Scholars have been allotted to this Research Centre with institute Scholarship. The department has also received 1.85 crores of funds so far from external agencies such as the UGC, AICTE, DST, DRDO, ECIL, NRSC, Comsat Systems Pvt. Ltd. for research and consultancy activities. The department has MoUs with NRSC and Comsat Systems Pvt. Ltd.

The Professors of the department include:

  1. Dr. K. Lalithendra: HoD, Ph.D. from IIT Delhi in Microwave Engineering. His research interests are Electromagnetic Bandgap Structures, Metamaterial, Frequency Selective Surfaces, Planar Antennas, RF Energy Harvesting.
  2. Dr. K. S. Nayanathara: Dean - Academics, Ph.D. from NIT Warangal. Former member of the GC, of the IETE. She is an expert in Electromagnetics, Microwave Devices and Antennas.
  3. Dr. K. Lal Kishore: Dean - R & D, Ph.D. from IISC Bengaluru. He recently retired from the post of Vice-Chancellor, JNTU Anantapur. He served the JNTUH, Hyderabad in various positions as Director, Principal, Rector & Registrar He is an expert in Electronic Devices and Circuits, VLSI System Design.
  4. Dr. Rameshwara Rao: Dean - Projects, Ph.D. from IIT, Bombay, 1990. He Served in various academic positions in the Osmania University and as Vice Chancellor of the JNTUH, Hyderabad. He is an expert in VLSI, Embedded Systems, Communications and Signal Processing. He has a extensive experience in R& D, 26 years teaching and guided 11 Ph.D.s and 4 are in progress.
  5. Prof. P. Viswanath: Former Executive Director of ECIL. He has 36 years of industrial experience in the field of Instrumentation & Control, specialized in Nuclear Power Plants.
  6. Prof. CHVRS Gopala Krishna: Former Executive Director of ECIL. He has 36 years of industrial experience in the field of Microwaves & Antennas.
  7. Dr. T. Esther Rani: She completed her Ph.D. from the JNTUH Hyderabad. She has been selected for Research Award for three consecutive years, 2015-2017 by the University Grants Commission and received a total grant of Rs. 46.7 Lakhs. Her areas of interest include Low Power VLSI Design, Mixed Signal Design, Embedded System Design, Image Processing and Computer Vision.
  8. Dr. Humaira Nishat: Ph.D. from the JNTUH and her research interests are Wireless Communication and Networks, Heterogeneous Networks & Device to Device Communication(5G).
  9. Dr. K. Yedukondalu: Ph.D. from Osmania University and expert in Wireless Communications, Biomedical & Adaptive Signal Processing, Global Navigation, Satellite systems.
  10. Dr. G. Ravi Shankar Reddy: Ph.D. from the JNTUA and expert in Signal Processing.
  11. Dr. P. Srinivasa Rao: Ph.D. from the JNTUH and his research interests include IoT, Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Soft Computing for Image Processing.
