Department of Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering Department was started in the Academic Year 2011 with an intake of 60 for the B. Tech (Mechanical Engineering) program.
Accreditation: B. Tech Mechanical Engineering program was initially accredited by NBA under Tier-1 for three years (2018-19 to 2020-21). This was extended for one more year (2021-22). The program was then re-accredited for three more years (2022-23 to 2024-25).
Minor Degree Program: Students admitted in to B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, can also pursue a minor degree in any of the following disciplines.
- Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning
- Data Science
- Cyber Security
- IoT
- Entrepreneurship
A minor degree certificate can greatly enhance the employability of students of Mechanical Engineering and may also pave the way for pursuing higher studies in interdisciplinary areas.
Laboratories: All laboratories of the department have been established with state of the art equipment, with a total outlay of about 2.5 crores. Notable equipments are production oriented CNC machines like CNC Turning Centre and CNC Milling Centre and advanced software like Master CAM, CREO and ANSYS-CFD. To promote student-centric learning, Team Projects Lab has been introduced in the curriculum in the second semester of B.Tech. third year. Students have developed a number of products in this lab.
Exposure of Students to Industry Environment: The Department completed consultancy work worth 7.5 lakh rupees in the area of CNC machining. Students are involved in the consultancy work to provide them industry exposure. The Department has MoUs with M/S COMSAT systems Pvt.Ltd., M/S AP-L Mech Industries etc. Industry visits and expert lectures are also organised on regular basis.
Faculty: The department has twenty seven faculty members, including six doctorates. Thirteen faculty members are pursuing Ph.D. All faculty members have obtained their Ph.D. or M.Tech degree from reputed academic institutions like IITs, NITs, BITS Pilani and University Engineering Colleges. Faculty members of the department have achieved many laurels like Best Paper Awards. Some of the faculty members are active members on the editorial boards of various reputed journals. Department faculty have published around four hundred research publications, with around 40% of them being indexed in Scopus/SCI/ESCI database. Faculty members have completed research projects worth Rs.20 lakhs, funded by NEWGEN-IEDC-DST, AICTE etc.
To allow faculty members to interact closely with various national and international experts, the Department organised its first International Conference (ICE3MT-20) in 2020. This event is conducted every alternate year and the latest one is scheduled for the end of October 2022. Such conferences provide an opportunity for B.Tech Mechanical Engineering students to interact with international experts, which in turn can help them gain MS admission in reputed world Universities.
Student Activities: To promote communication and organizational skills of students, MEKNOVATES-Mechanical Engineering Students Association regularly organizes Guest Lectures, Industrial Visits, Technical Fests, Design Contests, Live Model Contests etc. To expose students to cutting edge technologies, special Workshops are conducted every year.
