Department of Civil Engineering

The department was established in the academic year 2011-2012 and offers B.Tech. Program in Civil Engineering with an intake of 30 and M.Tech. Program in Structural Engineering with an intake of 18.

Accreditation:

    The B.Tech Civil Engineering program was accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) under Tier-1 for three years from 2018–19 to 2020–21. This accreditation was extended up to 2021–22 due to the pandemic. The program was subsequently re-accredited for another three years from 2022–23 to 2024–25 under Tier-1. Continuing this legacy of quality, the program is now accredited for the period 2025–26 to 2027–28 under Tier-1.

    M.Tech. Program in Structural Engineering was accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) under Tier-I for three years from 2022-23 to 2024-25.

Minor Degree Program: Students admitted to B.Tech. Civil Engineering (CE) can also pursue Minor Degree programs in any of the following disciplines:

  1. B.Tech. CE with minor in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI&ML)
  2. B.Tech. CE with minor in Data Science (DS)
  3. B.Tech. CE with minor in Cyber Security (CS)
  4. B.Tech. CE with minor in Internet of Things (IOT)

Laboratories: All the laboratories of the department are well established as per the prescribed curriculum and also beyond. The department has state-of-the-art laboratories for Cement and Concrete Testing, Highway Material Testing, Soil Testing, Surveying, Quality Testing of water and Waste water samples. Prominant equipment are Computerised Four-Column Load Frame (1000 kN) with Load and Displacement control modes of Testing consisting 16-channel Data Aquisition System, Computerised compression testing machine (3000 kN), Accelerated Corrosion Test setup, Vacuum Curing Chamber, Rapid Chloride Penetration Test setup, Rapid Chloride Migration Test setup, Accelerated Curing Tank, Air Entrainment Meter, Heat of Hydration Apparatus, Non-Destructive Testing Apparatus, Standard Penetration Test (SPT) Setup, Spectrophotometer, Noise Level Meter and Total Stations. The computer laboratory is equipped with the STAAD Pro., ETABS, AutoCAD and QGIS.

Faculty: The department has qualified and well experienced faculty members from all specializations of Civil Engineering like Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Resource Engineering and Construction Engineering and Management. The department offers Material Testing and Consultancy Services.

Department has 02 Emeritus Professor, 04 Professors, 01 Associate Professor, 2 Senior Assistant Professors and 08 Assistant Professors.   

The Professors of the Department include:

  • Dr. K. Ramamohan Reddy - Professor & Principal, He has 35 years of teaching experience in different capacities as Head, Centre for Water Resources in IST, JNTUH, and also as Head, Centre for Special Information Technology, IST, JNTUH. He has as many as 82 research publications in national as well as international journals and conferences. A research paper titled 'Flood Mitigation and Management' was adjudged as the best research paper by Indian National Council of Hydrology, New Delhi. He has been the Principal Investigator of two Research Projects. He also executed two consultancy projects related to the Geo-physical Investigations. He guided three Ph. D. Candidates and 52 M. Tech students. He was the regional Coordinator for EAMCET, ECET and various State Government Recruitment tests. He was also the Chief Regional coordinator for combined State Forest Department Recruitment Test. He was Director I/c, University Academic Audit Cell and Coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, JNTUH during 2019-21.  He was also officer on Special Duty to Vice-Chancellor, JNTUH from July 2019 to March 2022.
     
  • Dr.B.Naga Malleswara Rao – Professor, Head of the Department and Associate Dean, Infrastructure & Approvals, Ph.D. from NIT Warangal. He is specialised in Water Resources Engineering and has 25 years of Teaching experience and 4 years of Industrial experience. He has 47 Publications in National and International Journals and Conferences.
  • Dr. M.V. Seshagiri Rao - Professor and Dean, Planning & Coordination, Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from JNTU Hyderabad. He was the former Professor and Director of JNTU Hyderabad. He has 45 years experience in Research, Teaching, Consultancy and Construction.
    He published 250 research papers and won Nine awards for his publications and works. He was the ‘Outstanding Concrete Technologist’ in 2006, awarded by the Indian Concrete Institute for his contribution to the field of Concrete Technology and received the ‘Best Teacher Award’ from the Government of A.P. in 2009 apart from other awards for his papers.
    He guided 29 Ph.D. scholars on Special Concretes and 160 M.Tech. Projects. He has successfully completed R&D projects sanctioned by DST, AICTE and other funding agencies. He is also an expert member of UGC, AICTE, UPSC and APPSC. He has authored three books on ‘Fly Ash Based Bacterial Concrete’, ‘Engineering Mechanics’ and ‘Concrete Technology’.
     
  • Dr. N. Narayana - Professor, Ph.D. from Osmania University specialised in Petrology, Geochemistry. He was the former Joint Director (Principal Scientist) of National Council for Cement and Building Materials, Hyderabad. He has an Industrial experience of 28 years and Teaching experience of 11 years. He has 40 publications, completed 11 R&D Projects and 42 Sponsored Projects. He has also authored three books.
     
  • Dr. T. Muralidhara Rao - Professor, Ph.D. from NIT Warangal with a specialisation in Structural Engineering. He has 30 years of teaching experience. He has guided 18 B.Tech., 06 M.Tech. projects and published 37 National and International Journals and Conferences.
The Civil Engineering Association formed by the students for the benefit of students to impart additional knowledge in the field of Civil Engineering apart from the prescribed curriculum by organising Guest Lectures (by Professors from IIT, NIT, BITS, IIIT, Premier Universities & Industries), Technical Quiz, Workshops, Model Making Contests and also to develop the organising capabilities among the students.

 

 
 

 

 

 

Department of Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering Department was started in the Academic Year 2011 with an intake of 60 for the B. Tech (Mechanical Engineering) program.

 

Accreditation: B. Tech Mechanical Engineering program was initially accredited by NBA under Tier-1 for three years (2018-19 to 2020-21). This was extended for one more year (2021-22). The program was then re-accredited for three more years (2022-23 to 2024-25).

 

Faculty: The department has twenty-six faculty members and nine of them are doctorates. Seventeen faculty members are pursuing Ph.D. Most of the faculty members have obtained their Ph.D. or M. Tech degree from reputed academic institutions like IITs, NITs, BITS Pilani and University Engineering Colleges.

 

Faculty Research: Faculty members are active in research and the total research grants received are around 98 lakh rupees. Faculty members received research grant from reputed organisations like DMRL and few faculty are working for research projects with international collaboration. Faculty have published 11 patents and out of them two patents were granted. Department faculty have published around four hundred research publications, with around 40% of them being indexed in Scopus/SCI/ESCI database

 

Faculty members of the department have achieved many laurels like Best Paper Awards. Some of the faculty members are active members on the editorial boards of various reputed journals.

 

Laboratories: All laboratories of the department have been established with state-of-the-art equipment, with a total outlay of about 2.8 crores. Notable equipment is production-oriented CNC machines like CNC Turning Centre and CNC Milling Centre and advanced software like Master CAM, CREO and ANSYS-CFD. To promote student-centric learning, Team Projects Lab has been introduced in the curriculum in the second semester of B.Tech. third year. Students have developed a number of products in this lab.

 

Exposure of Students to Industry Environment: The Department completed consultancy work worth 22 lakh rupees in CNC machining. Students are exposed to industrial problems by involving them in the consultancy work.  The Department has MoUs with M/S COMSAT systems Pvt.Ltd. Industry visits and expert lectures from industry personnel are organised regularly.

 

Minor Degree Program:  Students admitted into B. Tech Mechanical Engineering, can also pursue a minor degree in any of the following disciplines.

  • Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning
  • Data Science
  • Cyber Security
  • IoT

A minor degree certificate can greatly enhance the employability of students of Mechanical Engineering and may also pave the way for pursuing higher studies in interdisciplinary areas.

 

To allow faculty members to interact closely with various national and international experts, the Department is organising series of International Conferences (ICE3MT)-the first conference organised in 2020, second conference in 2022 and third conference in 2024.  Such conferences provide an opportunity for B. Tech. Mechanical Engineering students to interact with international experts, which may help them in getting admission in to reputed world universities for MS program.

 

Student Activities: To promote communication and organizational skills of students, MEKNOVATES-Mechanical Engineering Students Association regularly organizes Guest Lectures, Industrial Visits, Technical Fests, Design Contests, Live Model Contests etc. To expose students to cutting edge technologies, special Workshops and Value-added courses are conducted on regular basis.
