In spite of a huge recession year with about 75 companies visiting CVR and above 900 placements for the 2023-24 academic year, it is the highest among the peer group of colleges. Apple Lab

A new iOS Application Development Centre has been established at the college. The new lab consists of state of the art iMacs that enables students to develop new applications for Apple devices. With the "Make in India" initiative and the expected manufacturing and increased sales of Apple devices in the country, new applications need to be developed for our needs and this lab will facilitate students to become developers.

Placements of Students during 2017-18

The college has been creating records year after year. With more than 100 companies visiting CVR and close to 700 placements for the 2017-18 academic year, it is the highest among the peer group of colleges. The highest offer is Rs. 24 Lakhs and close to 50 students got  offers higher than Rs. 7 Lakhs. About 90 offers are higher than Rs. 5 Lakhs. With this, CVR becomes the leading college in entire Telangana in terms of the offers with higher salaries.

National Level Programming Contest "Smart India Hackathon 2018" at CVR College of Engineering, Hyderabad on 30th and 31st March, 2018

Smart India Hackathon 2018 was an historic event for CVR College of Engineering, Hyderabad as it was the only institute in the state of Telangana holding this event for the second time. The college hosted this mega event wherein 38 teams with around 228 students among them 98 girls, along with the mentors, from various institutions across India participated to showcase their skills and developed technological methods for the benefit of society. 10 teams from CVR college of engineering participated in the Grand Finale at various centers across the country.

On 30th March, 2018, CVR College of Engineering held the Inaugural Ceremony of ‘Smart India Hackathon 2018 at 7:40 a.m. The inaugural function hosted by the college witnessed domain experts, senior professionals from IT industries and people from different ministries as judges for Hackathon 2018. The guest of honour of the function was, Shri G. T. Venkateshwar Rao IRS, commissioner, Electronics Service Delivery, Govt. of Telangana and Shri J. Satyanarayana, Chairman UIDAI, was the chief guest. The Chief Guest, Mr. J. Satyanarayana, Chairman UIDAI, stressed the importance of Hackathon 2018, expressed innovation means to do different things and doing differently. He congratulated CVR College of Engineering which imparts quality education and hosting this grand event for second time.

The Honorable Minister for Human Resource and Development, Shri. Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the world’s biggest Hackathon through video conference across all the nodal centers in India. He informed that more than one lakh students of 17400 plus teams sent their proposals among them 1296 teams are selected for final round of Software Edition Hackathon competition for continuous 36 hours at 28 nodal centers in 15 states simultaneously on 30th and 31st March 2018. He further added that the Hardware Hackathon competition will be conducted in June this year. He also informed that 27 projects from SIH17 are in advanced stage for implementation and he wish there can be 100 projects from this SIH18.

The Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi motivated and lightened up the spirits of the participants at 08:00 p.m on 30th March, 2018. He said that innovation quotient of nations will determine their progress and emphasized on the need for greater research in the country. He further mentioned that sky is the limit for young minds to innovate, create patents and make their production approachable for nation’s prosperity. He emphasized on the mantra that Smart India Hackathon will drive IPPP-Innovate, Patent, Produce and Prosper. Modi, who heard children from various states, said that students should be inquisitive as they innovate. Innovation is not merely a word nor is it restricted to events or occasions. Innovation is a continuous process and questioning is an important aspect of innovation.

The Chairman of the college Dr. Raghava Cherabuddi briefed about Hackathon as the beginning for providing solutions to make a better future. He told the students that they should take pride in being a part of the Grand Finale of this unique Hackathon. Dr. Raghava wished all the participants a great success.

The principal of the college, Dr. K. S. Nayanathara, formally welcomed all the participants from various parts of the country, colleagues & students. She appreciated the active participation of the students and the young talent to support the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Govt. of Telangana and Govt. of Tamilnadu

AICTE Chairman, Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe visited CVR College in the evening and interacted with participants, highlighted the significance of Hackathon, emphasized that Hackathon has proved that the students are ready for industry as they have solved big problems of country they can even handle the problem in the industry. These innovations make students a job giver rather than job seeker.

The ambience was quite aesthetic as all the focused minds of the country were gathered here to present their innovative ideas to combat the real-time challenges of our nation. The energy and enthusiasm portrayed by one and all was contagious and overwhelming. The campus was brimming with positivity and hope for a better future.

Valedictory

The Chief Guest for the valedictory function was Dr. Hemanth Darbari, Director General, C-DAC appreciated all the participants for taking up societal problems as a challenge and striving hard for its solutions in a stipulated time frame which helps them for future growth when they work in similar environments. As innovation is the key for the future all the students should utilize the support from every level. A small idea which comes up, need to be nurtured properly and make that happen. Nowadays, because of internet and connectivity, a lot of information is there at finger tips, our younger generation is very smart enough to utilize. The Guest of Honour was Ram Gopal Gollakota, Head, End-to-End Portfolio Management, Mobility Networks, Nokia, USA, has emphasised the importance of hackathon and given many examples of innovations taking place these days.

CVR College of Engineering as the nodal centre has three prizes from MeitY Rs. 1,00,000/-, Rs. 75,000/- and Rs. 50,000/-. Apart from these management of CVR College of Engineering announced two more prizes of worth Rs 25,000/- each in addition 2 prizes to worth Rs 10,000/- by Persistent Systems and KPIT.

The winner was team Hack Squad, from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavans Sardar Patel Institute of Technology, Mumbai.

I runner up - The O(1), from SCTR’s Pune Institute of Computer Technology, Pune.

II runner up - The SSGMCE_Loopers, from Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering, Shegaon (Maharashtra).

III runner up (CVR Special Prize) - Cryptic Crusaders from Delhi Technological University, New Delhi.

IV runner up (CVR Special Prize) - The Mask from St.Joseph’s College of Engineering, Chennai

Persistent inspirational award presented to the team CyberAon from Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering & Research,Nagpur.

KPIT Innovation award presented to the team Beatles from Dr.B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandar, Punjab.

The chairman of the college Dr. C.V. Raghava thanked the Prime Minister of India for providing an open platform for the students, AICTE for selecting CVRCE as the nodal center for the second time, the Chief Guest, Dr. Hemanth Darbari, Director General, C-DAC and the Guest of Honour, Ram Gopal Gollakota, Head End-to-End Portfolio Management, Mobility Networks, Nokia, USA. He also thanked the judges for being a part of this initiative, Faculty, student volunteers, non teaching staff, infrastructure team, media and everyone who supported this event for grand success.

The vision of New India, Smart India, Digital India seemed closer to realization after the closure of the 36-hour non-stop event, Smart India Hackathon 2018. This unique event encouraged many young minds to convert their knowledge into skills that would solve many crucial challenges facing our country.

What is Smart India Hackathon?

Smart India Hackathon is the World’s largest Nation-Building Digital Initiative of the HRD Ministry and conceptualized to harness the creativity and energy of bright young students for the development of the country. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, envisages a Digital India to bridge the digital divide in our country and further promote digital literacy to make development a comprehensive mass movement and put governance within everyone’s reach in India. To work towards our PM’s vision, MHRD, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Inter Institutional Inclusive Innovation Center (i4C), and Persistent Systems organized Smart India Hackathon 2017, a unique initiative to identify new and disruptive digital technology innovations for solving the challenges faced by our country. The initiative was a huge success. To reiterate the efforts towards our PM’s vision, MHRD, AICTE, i4C, Persistent Systems and Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini is proud to organize the 2nd edition of Smart India Hackathon 2018 with partners: Cisco, DEVNET, Deloitte, KPIT, CDK Global, ADI and AXISCADES. Social Meadia Partne:r Ideas to Imacts, Media Partners: AIR India, DD, NIC and myGOV, Communication partners: Suma Soft and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Till date, 45+ union ministries and departments and 18 state governments have already joined this grand initiative, making it much bigger than the previous edition. Through this initiative, govt. departments will directly engage with thousands of technical students and challenge them to build digital solutions to improve their efficiency, plug revenue leakages and corruption.

Smart India Hackathon 2018 is being organized and will have 2 sub-editions – Software as well as Hardware:

  • Software Edition will be 36-hour software product development competition, similar in concept to Smart India Hackathon 2017
  • The new Hardware Edition will be a hackathon where teams will be work for 5 straight days and build their hardware solutions. This competition would be organised across 10 nodal centers with 20-25 teams each

For this second edition of Smart India Hackathon 2018, 27 central ministries/departments and 17 State Governments sent more than 900 problem statements. 17,400 teams of around one lakh students of engineering, management and MCA submitted their proposals. These proposals were scrutinized and 1,296 teams are selected for the Grand Finale After the scrutiny, 408 problems (340 for Software and 68 for Hardware) were finally selected for the Grand Final. Software Edition Hackathon competition will be for continuous 36 hours at 28 nodal centers in 15 states simultaneously on 30th and 31st March 2018. Moreover, HRD ministry is also engaging with DST to ensure that selected teams from SIH2018 could be supported by Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) as Start-ups and DST has responded very positively towards these efforts.
